Using tables effectively to get better search engine ranks

HTML code optimization and validation is an integral part of website optimization to get better search engine ranks. Even the HTML code needs to be optimized for appropriate keyword usage and placement. The keywords are so used in the HTML code that they get highlighted and search engine spiders easily spot them. This gives your website greater chance to get better search engine ranks. The keywords can be highlighted in the HTML code by keeping them close to the beginning of the code.

In most of the websites the navigation links are placed down on the left hand side of the screen. This style of navigation bar is HTML coded in form of several HTML table cells. As a default they make first cell of the table. However, SEO practitioner’s aim is to have keyword rich body text to be in the first cell to get keyword prominence for spiders and thus, better ranks. To achieve this feat without disturbing either page layout or keyword prominence, by using ROWSPAN characteristic of HTML tables.

ROWSPAN also works if you have more than one row of navigation links. All you have to do is to increase the number of ROWSPAN of the body text. When you use this feature, the web page will appear same to the end user however, for the spiders your keywords will come into prominence and you will get better ranks.

The use of ROWSPAN and effective use of HTML tables to get better search engine ranks can be better understood by the following example of HTML coding.

<TR>
<TD><!—Effective use of HTML tables for SEO--></TD>
<TD ROWSPAN=2 VALIGN=top>You can get better search engine ranks through search engine optimization. Internet marketing is very good way of promoting online business through search engines. </TD>
</TR>
<TR>
<TD>
<A HREF="home.html">Home</A><BR>
<A HREF="cat.html">View our catalog</A><BR>
<A HREF="help.html">Help</A><BR>
<A HREF="search.html">Search the site</A><BR>
<A HREF="contact.html">Contact us</A><BR>
<A HREF="about.html">About us</A><BR>
</TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>

The above example will push the navigation links down when spiders read the code and bring keywords to prominence thus giving better ranks to the web page. However, the page remains same in its executed form.
