Yahoo publicly announced its readiness to play second fiddle to Google in the search engines war. Isn’t it as puzzling as Pepsi announcing that people drink their product only if Coca-Cola is not available? Has yahoo already given up? What could be the possible reason for Yahoo accepting that it cannot possibly take over the significant market share of Google?
No, yahoo is certainly in no mood to give up. They have simply changed their strategy to tab the market. They are going the by-pass way and they certainly want the Internet users' attention. In fact, interestingly enough Yahoo is wooing the emerging market of Web 2.0 style websites. Yahoo, most recently launched My Web 2.0, its public book-marking service and acquiring Del.icio.us. The latter as we know is a well-established public book-marking service. Yahoo also launched Yahoo Answers. It is a service that relies on a community of users to answer questions that the same community asks.
Now, how exactly can it give tough days to the search engines? The answer is simple. Public book-marking system take into account opinion of thousands of people for deciding which websites are important rather than relying on one person's (or one algorithm's) opinion. Therefore, the end users get to decide which websites are more importantly relevant to specific topics, and which websites are not worth taking the time to bookmark.
