The Federal Govt. of Australia has proposed some fundamental changes in the media laws that are slated to bring Internet into strategic fore-scene amongst the traditionally leading media players in the country. These changes are set to make Internet as major source of content and information dissemination via PC and wireless devices.
Following the trend of Australia’s media giant, Channel 7 that got into strategic alliance with Yahoo!, John Fairfax Holdings and News Ltd., Australia's largest newspaper publishers expressed their interest of getting into similar alliance wherein they could disseminate their content via larger portal. These companies are more than willing to invest in the existing as well as allied market of media and Internet alliances like Yahoo-7 and MSN-Nine. News Ltd. spokesman Greg Baxter said, "We're always looking at anything where the content and the technology can go together. That's what nine-msn and Yahoo!-7 is all about." In fact, last year itself News Corp., the parent company of News Ltd. spent $US1.4 billion ($A1.87 billion) to get three "gateway" Internet portals so as to hook the customers to its gamut of online applications. News Ltd. wants to move ahead and away from online motor and employment classifieds towards news and entertainment websites.
Fairfax also is looking ahead to newer and more effective Internet options to promote its classifieds and distribute news and entertainment related content. They have struck deals with Yahoo and Hutchison 3 to promote its classified advertisements and distribute news and entertainment content respectively.
The future of Internet, in alliance with the media houses, looks bright and perfect. It is surely going to take over all the traditional media as a source of content dissemination. |
